Three Days in Madrid

In the autumn of 2024, a quick 72-hour vacation to Madrid with good friends was the ideal excuse to explore the city's abundant heritage. Our hotel, situated in the heart of the city on Cal base to find Madrid's renowned landmarks and savour its gastronomic delights. As we wandered through the city's lively plazas, we took in the transmittable energy and historic significance that surrounded us.

Our group's diverse preferences resulted in various activities. Suzanne and Richard began the very firstday 1 evening with a memorable supper at Bodega de los Secretos, a comfortable, centuries-old restaurant filled with beauty. On day 2 my spouse and I signed up with a tapas and red wine walking tour led by the passionate Mario. We went to numerous regional hotspots, including a mushroom specialty bar and an Iberian delicatessen, while discovering Madrid's history and culture.

Day 3 was everything about cooking, with Pamela and Bill organizing a paella masterclass at the glamorous Ritz Mandarin Oriental. Chef Oliver Menendez directed us through the complexities of making conventional Valencian paella and black rice with squid and lobster. The experience was coupled with tastings of local sherries and white wines, making it among the journey's highlights.

We rounded off the weekend with a see to Teatro Flamenco Madrid. This intimate venue showcased the raw feeling and charm of flamenco dancing, offering a perfect cultural capstone.

Throughout the journey, we took pleasure in memorable meals at local dining establishments like Casa Verona and Casa Alberto, where we delighted in genuine Spanish meals such as anchovies in olive oil, croquettes, and even the renowned calamari sandwich. The Mercado de San Miguel was another standout, using a look into Spain's abundant cooking customs.
